Kinuko Imai Hoffman: Time Passing
July 21, 2016 –
September 11, 2016

Kinuko Imai Hoffman exhibits TIME PASSES in the Narthex Gallery at Saint Peter's Church
July 21-September 11, 2016.
Free and open to the public daily.

This installation is presented by Midtown Arts Common in cooperation with Saint Peter's Church.

Artist Statement

My work explores my personal interpretations of daily life through harmonious mixed media assemblages. It invites the viewer to absorb both the complexity and the clarity of my vision. I construct my paintings in a unified manner to communicate a strong theme on canvas - a method that reflects years of training in traditional Chinese brush painting. The understated, minimal quality of the works belies a high degree of complexity.

Assembling raw materials in my works transforms them into a symbolic collage expressing the constant movement of people in today's world. I combine materials with explorations of color and composition to create a harmony that transports the viewer into a
meditative state where balance, drama, and clarity unite.

About the Artist

Kinuko Imai Hoffman hails from a family of architects and artists. After college, she lived in countries across Asia and studied traditional Chinese brush painting. Later, she studied the freer abstract technique of the Chinese southern style with Master Ian Chung in Hong Kong.

In 2003, Kinuko moved to New York City where she attended the National Academy School of Fine Arts and explored still life and landscape painting in oil. During that time, she received numerous awards and merit scholarships. In 2009, Kinuko joined the Art Students League of New York and focused on abstraction with mixed media.

Today she works with acrylic and limited palettes in a signature style that blends traditional Chinese painting techniques with abstract overtones.

Kinuko's work has been exhibited in galleries in Chelsea and around New York City, with solo
exhibitions in New York and Boston. Kinuko currently works and resides in New York City.
