About the musicians

Timo Vollbrecht is an improvising saxophonist, composer, and reeds player. Described as “luminously fine” by New York’s All About Jazz Magazine, Timo is one of Germany’s most important up-and-coming voices in jazz. He resides both in Berlin and New York. In his dynamic and emotive music, he merges Berlin’s urban sounds with the impulsive vibe of the American metropolis. He moves beyond his jazz roots by integrating elements from classical, minimalism, post-rock, experimental music and today’s song culture.

He has performed alongside Joe Lovano, Kenny
Werner, Randy Brecker, and Pop-icon Robbie Williams. Known for his rich sound, he won numerous awards and released six highly acclaimed albums. In addition, he has appeared on such landmark venues as the Village Vanguard, Blue Note Jazz Club NY, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Alice Tully Hall. Furthermore, New York’s jazz bible Hot House featured him as part of their artist of the month-series and hailed him as a “remarkable talent with outstanding musical efforts”. The Fulbright scholar studied saxophone and composition at the Berlin University of the Arts and at New York University with Prof. Mark Turner.

An internationally touring artist, Timo has performed in 25 countries on four continents. Notable performances as a bandleader include a collaboration with GRAMMY-Award winning Branford Marsalis at the Festival International de Port-au-Prince (Haiti) and at the Village Vanguard, Panama Jazz Festival curated by Danilo Pérez, Echo Music Awards Berlin (D), Langnau Jazz Nights (CH), Costa Rica Jazz Festival, Teatro del Lago Performing Arts Center (Chile), and a collaboration with Brazil’s musical icon Bibi Ferreira. Furthermore, Mr. Vollbrecht performed for the legendary dance choreographer Pina Bausch.
